SSC CGL Details


SSC conducts Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination every year for the recruitment of staff for various posts under different ministries and departments of the Government of India. SSC CGL 2019 exam is currently undergoing. SSC CGL 2019 Tier-II exam is tentatively scheduled for 14-17 October 2020.

SSC CGL  exam is attempted by lakhs of students every year to live their dream by getting a reputed government job. There are various posts under different departments, including Assistant Accounts Officer/Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) under CAG, Assistant Section Officer (ASO) under Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of External Affairs, etc.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

A SSC CGL candidate should meet the following eligibility criteria:

 

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria of Nationality

A candidate should be

  • a citizen of India, or
  • a citizen of Bhutan or Nepal or
  • a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with an intention of permanently settling in India or
  • a person of Indian origin migrated from either/or Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

 

Age Limit Eligibility

For different posts in SSC CGL, the age limit of candidates is different. The Age limit for SSC CGL 2019 is calculated as on 01-01-2020. However, there are age relaxations given to candidates based on the category as per the SSC CGL 2019 exam. The following age relaxations are permissible:

SSC CGL Educational Qualification Eligibility

Must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized degree or institute.

Desirable Qualification- Chartered Accountant or Cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in

Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics.

Junior Statistical Officer

Must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized degree or institute.

Must have at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level.

Statistical Investigator Grade-II

Must have Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects from a recognized University or Institute.

Must have studied Statistics as a subject in all the three years of the graduation course.

Al Other Posts

Must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized degree or institute.

 

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Pattern

SSC CGL Examination is conducted in four stages which are conducted over different days. The pattern for each tier differs as per the syllabus and pattern.

Tier I: Preliminary Examination

It comprises an objective multiple-choice exam with four sections and is conducted online. The subjects included are:

Some important points to note for SSC CGL Tier 1 examination:

  • For every correct answer, candidates score +2 and for every incorrect answer candidate gets negative marking of -0.50.
  • The total time allotted for the exam is 60 minutes.
  • The time allotted to candidates using scribe is 80 minutes.

In SSC CGL 2019, based on results from Tier I, qualified candidates are eligible to take the Tier II and Tier III exams. Earlier Candidates have to qualify Tier II to sit for Tier III exam.

SSC CGL Tier II: CGL Mains Exam

Candidates who have cleared Tier I exam are eligible for SSC CGL Tier II and SSC CGL Tier III exam.

It also comprises objective multiple-choice questions in four different sections, covering the following papers/subjects:

Some important points for SSC CGL mains exam:

  • The mode of exam is online, and question type is objective.
  • Paper 1 and 2 are mandatory for all.
  • Paper 3 is valid only for candidates who have applied for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and shortlisted in SSC CGL Tier-I.
  • Paper 4 is valid only for candidates who have applied for the post of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer and shortlisted in SSC CGL Tier-I.
  • Negative marking:
    • For Paper 1, 2 and 4 is 0.50
    • For Paper 3 is 0.25.
  • For Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates, time allotted is 2 hours 40 minutes for each section.

 

Tier III: Descriptive Paper

It is a written test to test your writing skills. It is a descriptive pen and paper mode exam (offline).

Tier IV: Data Entry Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test

It includes two exams depending on the positions applied for:

  • Data Entry Speed Test (DEST):

This test is for candidates applying for the post of Tax Assistants (in Central Excise and Income Tax). The test is of qualifying nature.

In this test, the criteria is to have 8000 key depression per hour. A passage will be given, which will have 2000 key depressions in the time duration is 15 minutes.
 

  • Computer Proficiency Test (CPT):

This tests the basic knowledge and understanding of the usage of computers (to make slides for the presentation, spreadsheets and word processing). It is for candidates applying for the post of Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA & AFHQ. Also for candidates applying for post of Assistant in SFIO, Assistant (GSI) and for Inspector in CBIC.

The test is of qualifying nature.

It comprises of three modules: Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Generation of Slides.
