1. India and Germany sign 22 agreements

India and Germany signed 22 agreements in various fields, including Artificial Intelligence, agriculture, digital transformation, etc. German Chancellor Angela Merkel came to India to hold talks with Indian PM as part of 5th Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC).

India and Germany reiterated the need for bilateral and multilateral cooperation to stand up against the challenges posed by terrorism and extremism.

2. 21st North East Book Fair in Guwahati

Vice President of India inaugurated the 21st North East Book Fair in Guwahati, Assam. In order to inculcate reading habits in children, VP laid stress on instituting on library per village.

The book fair is organized by All Assam Publishers and Booksellers Association (AAPBA), which will remain open for 12 days and is showcasing more than 200 bookstalls.

3. 7th India-US Economic and Financial Partnership meeting organized in New Delhi

The 7th India-US Economic and Financial Partnership meeting was organized in New Delhi and was co-chaired by Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and US Secretary of Treasury Steven T Mnuchin.

The two sides discussed the policies to boost economic growth and to improve mutual cooperation on various subjects like anti-money laundering, combating terror financing, etc.

4. New Bamboo Technology parks in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

Minister of Development of North East Region (DoNER) proposed to set up new Bamboo Technology parks in J&K and Ladakh.

The Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) under North Eastern Council will help in the implementation of the proposed project. The parks will be set up in line with the National Bamboo Mission.

 5. First-ever Indian Human Brain Atlas created by IIIT Hyderabad and others

The researchers from IIIT Hyderabad, McGill University in Canada and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Kerala have developed first ever Indian Human Brain Atlas.

Brain Atlas is a brain map that will be a standard to measure brain abnormalities.

The study found that the Indians have the smallest brains in the world and there is a great difference between the brains of Indians, Chinese, Koreans and Caucasians with respect to the shape and size of the brain.

6. Sharjah International Book Fair 2019

The Sharjah International Book Fair 2019 was inaugurated on 30th October, and the book fair will continue till 9th November 2019.

The book fair is held annually in Sharjah, UAE and the 2019 fair is its 38th edition. It is considered to be the world’s 4th largest fair.

2019 Theme is- “Open Books, Open Minds.”

7. Indian President launches IIT Delhi Global Alumni Endowment Fund

Indian President launched IIT Delhi Endowment Fund at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Ten founder alumni of IIT Delhi committed Rs 250 crores during the launch of the fund.

IIT Delhi announced the launch of ‘Each One Teach One’ Initiative and invited alumni to support the education of one student per year.

8. National Health Profile- 2019

Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI) released the National Health Profile 2019. The publication covers information on Demography, Socio-economic Status, Disease Morbidity and Mortality, etc.

It is the 14th issue by CBHI, and some of the highlights of this publication are as follows:

1. Birth Rate (2017)- 20.2 per 1000 population

2. Death Rate (2017)- 6.3 per 1000 population

3. Life Expectancy at Birth increased form 49.7 yrs in 1970-75 to 68.5 years in 2012-16.

4. Infant Mortality Rate (2016) – 33 per 1000 live births

5. Total Fertility Rate (2016)- 2.3

6. Maternal Mortality Rate is highest in Assam and lowest in Kerala.

9. RBI reorganizes departments to strengthen supervision and regulation

Reserve Bank of India has implemented its decision to strengthen supervision and regulation by integrating the functions of supervision initially carried out by Department of banking supervision, Department of non-banking supervision and Department of co-operative bank supervision into a single department i.e Department of Supervision and similarly for regulation a single department has been set up i.e. Department of Regulation.

10. India’s first-ever Arts Expo- “eCAPA”

India’s first-ever Arts Exposition “eCAPA 2019- Art from the Heart” is organized in New Delhi from 2nd November- 14th November 2019. The exposition will provide a platform for Artists with intellectual challenges like mental retardation, Seizure disorder, Autism, etc. to showcase their talents in different areas like painting, drawings, dance, music, etc.
