1. PM Modi holds bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart
On the sidelines of the ASEAN India Summit, Indian PM held bilateral discussions with Japnese PM Shinzo Abe including India-Japan 2+2 Dialogue and annual summit which are scheduled to be held this year.
PM Modi will also attend the 14th East Asia Summit and 3rd Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) summit today.
East Asia Summit is an annual meeting held between ASEAN nations and eight other nations- India, Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, United States.
RCEP is a free trade agreement between ASEAN nations and its six FTA partners- India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand.
2. Commonwealth Law Ministers’ Conference begins in Colombo
Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad will be participating in the Commonwealth Law Ministers’ Conference that has begun in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The theme for the conference is “Equal Access to Justice and the Rule of Law.”
It will be a four-day conference that will be attended by law ministers and the Attorney Generals of Commonwealth countries.
Commonwealth nations are a political association of 53 member states including the UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, India, and New Zealand.
3. Space technology cell at IIT Delhi
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and IIT Delhi will set up a space technology cell which will help in carrying out space technology-related projects with required deliverables.
It has been proposed that IIT Delhi becomes the academic partner of ISRO in AI, nano-tech, functional textiles, etc. related research.
4. Justice AK Mittal takes over as new Chief Justice of MP High Court
Governor of Madhya Pradesh Lalji Tandon administered the oath of office to Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal, the new Chief Justice of MP High Court.
Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal is former Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. He also served as a Judge in Punjab and Haryana High Court.
5. 5th India International Science Festival in Kolkata
The Indian PM will inaugurate the 5th India International Science Festival (IISF) to be held at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata. The festival will held from 5th November- 8th November 2019.
The festival will present India’s contribution in the field of Science and technology. The purpose of this festival is to inculcate scientific temperament among the Indians.
The theme for 2019: “RISEN India- Research, Innovation, and Science Empowering the Nation.”
The first and second IISF were held in New Delhi.
6. SCO Joint Exercise on Earthquake rescue begins today
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Joint Exercise on Urban Earthquake Search and Rescue was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is the host of this event which will be held from 4th November-7th November 2019. The exercise aims to provide a platform for the rehearsal of disaster response mechanisms, knowledge sharing, enhancing coordination in case of earthquakes.
7. BAFTA and Scotland Awards presented to a documentary on Real Kashmir Football Club
British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) and Scotland Awards were presented to a documentary on Real Kashmir Football Club during a ceremony held in Glasgow, Scotland.
The film won the award in “Single Documentary” category. The documentary is based on the journey of former Rangers ace David Robertson as the coach of Real Kashmir Football Club.
8. Madhuri Vijay receives JCB Prize for Literature 2019
2019 JCB Prize for Literature has been awarded to Madhuri Vijay for her debut novel “The Far Field”. The winner receives a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh.
She has also been awarded Henfield Prize and the Pushcart Prize.
JCB Prize for Literature is a literary award that was instituted in 2018 that recognizes the distinguished work of fiction by an Indian writer or the work translated by an Indian author.
9. Union Minister of State for AYUSH inaugurates National Research Institute of Unani Medicine in Sikkim
National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin disorders has been inaugurated in Sikkim.
The institute has been upgraded from the Central Research Institue of Unani Medicine.
10. Lakshya Sen wins SaarLorLux Open Badminton Tournament
Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated China’s Sen Weng Hong Yang to win the SaarLorLux Open Badminton Tournament at Saarbrücken in Germany.
2019 SaarLorLux Open was held from 29th October to 3rd November 2019. Li Yun of China won the women’s singles title of the tournament.
