1. Inauguration of Col. Chewang Rinchen Setu in Ladakh

Union Minister for Defence Rajnath Singh will be attending the inaugural ceremony of Col. Chewang Rinchen Setu in Ladakh. The bridge is constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) at an altitude of 14,650 feet on the strategically important road Durbuk Shyok Daulat Beg Oldie, in eastern Ladakh.

The bridge is built using the micropile technology to undermine the technological challenges in the region. The bridge is named so to honour Colonel Chewang Rinchen, an Indian Army officer from Ladakh, who was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra twice. 

2. ‘Bridgital Nation’, book authored by N Chandrasekaran and Roopa Purushothaman released by PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a book titled ‘Bridgital Nation’ which is authored by N Chandrasekaran (Chairman, Tata Sons) and Roopa Purushothaman (Chief Economist of the Tata Group). The book provides a solution for the generation of jobs through artificial intelligence. The concept ‘Bridgital’ addresses the challenges in India by bridging the gap between urban and rural, illiteracy and education, aspirations and achievement, etc. 

3. Joko Widodo sworn in as President of Indonesia for final term

Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, took the oath as the President of Indonesia for the second and final term. Joko Widodo got re-elected with 55.5% of the vote in the presidential elections that took place on 17th April.

Maruf Amin also took the oath as Vice-President on the same day. The country is facing various challenges like security, corruption and economic slowdown.

4. PM of Nepal to attend 18th NAM Summit in Azerbaijan

Prime Minister of Nepal K P Sharma Oli will be participating in the 18th NAM Summit of Heads of State and Government at Baku, Azerbaijan. The summit will be held from 25-26 October 2019.

The agenda of the summit is to review the progress in the implementation of outcomes of the 17th NAM Summit (2016). The summit will conclude with the assumption of the Baku Declaration.

Non-Alignment Movement was founded during the Cold War days in Belgrade, although its ten principles were laid down at the Bandung Conference in 1955 itself. The first summit was held in 1961, which was attended by 25 countries. 

5. World’s oldest natural pearl found on Abu Dhabi Island

The archeologists in Abu Dhabi discovered the world’s oldest known natural pearl at a Neolithic site on Marawah Island. This Abu Dhabi Pearl have been radiocarbon dated to 5,800-5,600 BCE.

Before this discovery, the oldest pearl was found in the UAE from a Neolithic site in Umm Al Qaiwain.

6. Rs. 5,072 crore infused in Indian Capital Markets through FPIs

According to the latest depositories data, Rs. 5,072 crores have been infused into the Indian Capital Markets this month, out of this Rs. 4, 970 crores have been invested in equities and remaining in the debt market.

The government efforts to revive domestic demand by increasing dearness allowance, reducing corporate taxes, recapitalizing PSU banks, etc. have somewhere contributed to increasing investment by FPIs. 

7. Union Minister of State to inaugurate CCRT e-portal and YouTube Channel

CCRT e-portal and YouTube channel have been inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel to promote Digital India and Indian culture.

Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) started publishing books from the series “Untold Tales of India’s Cities” to know the less famous places and their rural and semi-urban culture.

8. Most Eminent Senior Citizen award is given to former Attorney General K Parasaran

Former Attorney General K. Parasaran was awarded the Most Eminent Senior Citizen Award by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu for his contribution to the field of law and justice and his extraordinary personality.

The award was presented at the Elder’s Day Celebration function of Age Care India, an institution that works for the welfare of the elderly.

9. Kuhoo Garg and Dhruv Rawat claim Egypt International mixed doubles title

Indian Shuttlers Kuhoo Garg and Dhruv Rawat win the mixed doubles titles by defeating Utkarsh Arora and Karishma Wadkar 21-16, 22-20 at the Egypt International 2019 being held in Cairo.

10. 7th CISM Military World Games in China

7th CISM Military World Games is being organized in Wuhan, China. The motto for 2019 is “Military Glory, World Peace.”

International Military Sports Council (CISM)- one of the global sports organization, has been organizing the Military World Games every four years since 1995. It is a multi-sport event organized one year before the Olympic Games are held.

The first Military World Games were held in Rome, with 93 nations competing for 17 different sporting events.

6th Military World Games were held in 2015 in Mungyeong, Korea, with 105 countries participating in different events. Russia emerged as the topper with the highest number of medals.
