1. France announces a 3-pronged security partnership with India

Due to China’s growing influence in the Southern Indian Ocean, the French President has announced a three-pronged security partnership with India in the region. India and France have been working together to strengthen cooperation for stability and security in the region.

France is the second-largest maritime power in the world after the US.

2. UNEP adopted the “Colombo Declaration”

The members of the United Nation Environment Programme has adopted the “Colombo Declaration” to handle challenges imposed by nitrogen globally. The aim of the declaration is to reduce nitrogen waste by 50% until 2030.

A campaign “Nitrogen for Life” is yet to be launched on sustainable nitrogen management. The declaration is prepared using the technical support of the International Nitrogen Management System.

3. Deepotsava 2019 in Ayodhya, UP

In Deepotsava 2019 programme, a world record will be created by lightening 5 lakh 51 thousand clay lamps in Ayodhya city of Uttar Pradesh.

A Shobha Yatra comprising of various tableaux on the episodes of Lord Rama’s life will be showcased. There will also be a live stage show ‘Ramlila’ with participants from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Philippines at different places in Ayodhya.

Ayodhya is a historical and cultural city of India that has been recognized as the birthplace of Lord Ram, according to Hindu Mythology. The place has been in news since the Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992, and the case is now in Supreme Court and the order has been reserved for the time being.  

4. DEFCOM 2019 will be hosted in New Delhi on 26 and 27 November

DEFCOM 2019 will be held in New Delhi with theme ‘Communications as a Decisive Catalyst for Jointness.’ Corps of Signals, Indian Army, Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be organizing the seminar together.

DEFCOM is India’s international conference & exposition on military communication. It provides an opportunity to bring together national and international IT, Communication Industry and other stakeholders, including Indian Armed Forces key personnel.

5. No Visa Required for Indians travelling to Brazil

The Brazilian government has exempted Indians from obtaining Visa for travelling to Brazil as a tourist or business purposes. This benefit has also been extended to Chinese travelers. It is the first time that this South American nation has extended this facility to developing countries.

Earlier this year, Brazil has eliminated visa requirements for people travelling from US, Canada, Australia and Japan in the country for tourism or business purpose.

6. City Montessori School enters Guinness Book of World Records

City Montessori School of Lucknow has registered its name in Guinness World Record to become the world’s largest school having largest number of strengths in 2019-20. The school has 18 branches, with around 56,000 students in Lucknow itself.

The school received UNESCO prize for Peace Education in 2002.

7. Maharatna status to PSUs HPCL and Power Grid Corporation

The government has granted Maharatna status to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Power Grid Corporation. The decision will provide greater operational and financial autonomy to these PSUs. The boards of these PSUs will be able to make and implement schemes for the training and Human Resource Management of the employees.

HPCL is an oil and natural gas company that was formed in 1974 and has its headquarters at Mumbai.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited is India’s largest electric power transmission corporation that was incorporated in 1989. Its headquarters is located in Gurugram.

8. Arvind Singh appointed as chairman of Airports Authority of India

Arvind Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the Airports Authority of India, while Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will chair the National Highways Authority of India.

Arvind Singh is a senior IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is Uttarakhand cadre 1988 batch IAS officer who was Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education.

Pramod Kumar Tiwari will be the Director-General of the Bureau of Indian Standards.
