DefExpo 2022 begins in Gandhinagar

The 12th edition of the Defence Expo on Land, Naval & Homeland Security Systems Exhibition started on 18th October 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It is the largest defence exhibition of Asia. It will continue for five days till 22 October 2022. Defence Exhibition Organisation is the organiser of the Defence Expo 2022. Defence Exhibition Organisation is an autonomous organisation of the government of India formed in 1981.

For the first time, the event has been organised in a four-venue format.

• Helipad Exhibition Centre (HEC) is the venue for the exhibition.
• Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre (MMCEC) is the venue for official seminars and functions.
• There will be live demonstrations at Sabarmati River Front.
• There will be ship visits for the public at Porbandar.

The theme of this Defence Expo 2022 is 'Path to Pride'. According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, DefExpo 2022 would be the largest-ever Defence expo.

Events at DefExpo 2022

Live demonstrations by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and DRDO will be held in the evening daily at Sabarmati River Front.

On 19 October, there will be the biggest-ever drone show by the IIT Delhi start-up M/s Botlabs. The startup is an iDeX winner. 

For the first time, states/union territories have been invited to set up pavilions at the event. The India Pavilion (pavilion of the Department of Defence Production) will showcase the maturity of indigenous defence products, start-ups, latest technology, including Artificial Intelligence in defence. It has been named ‘Path to Pride’.

Seventy-five countries are taking part in DefExpo 2022.

For the first time, ‘Invest for Defence’, targeted to promote investment in the defence sector will be held. It is the first-ever marquee event of the Ministry of Defence. The Minister of Defence will inaugurate it on October 20. 451 partnerships in the form of MoUs, transfer of technology agreements and product launches are expected during this event. 

The second edition of India Africa Defence Minister Dialogue and the Indian Ocean Region-plus Conclave is also being held on the sidelines of the Defence Expo 2022 on 18 and 19 October respectively. India is going to pitch its military equipment to different countries. 

The first India-Africa Defence Dialogue was held in Lucknow, UP. Lucknow Declaration was adopted at the end of the dialogue. 

Apart from this, Raksha Mantri Awards for Excellence in Defence Manufacturing is also being organised for the first time during DefExpo.

Defence PSUs at the DefExpo 2022

DefExpo 2022 is the first-ever edition exclusively for Indian companies.

DRDO will display a wide range of 430 products. The major theme for this year’s DRDO participation is based on the 3D (DRDO, Designed and Developed) ecosphere.

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) will showcase products ranging from Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Surface to Air Missiles, Airborne products, underwater weapons & many more.

Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) will showcase Bio Implants (Application in Orthopedics, dentistry etc), Titanium Valves and filters (Application in Nuclear Submarine), Materials Supplied for PSLV and GSLV MK III, Nickel alloy and titanium alloy casting (Application in Space and naval), etc.

About DefExpo

DefExpo is a biennial event.  It was conceptualised in 1998 with an objective to promote defence exports from India and exhibit the capabilities of Indian defence R&D and production. The first exhibition was held in 1999. After that, the defence exhibition was held in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020. 

The 12th edition of Defence Expo will showcase the progress made by the Indian defence industry. Indian Defence Industries are the major drivers of the government's aim to achieve "Make in India, Make for the World". India is being transformed from the biggest defence importer to a net exporter.
