Question of The Day16-12-2019

In a classroom, there are six persons Heena, Esha, Tina, Sumit, Dharmendra, and Rudra having different heights. Their PT teacher told them to form a line such that all of them face south direction and are standing in ascending order from west to east. Heena is standing immediate left of Dharmendra. Rudra is taller than only Sumit but shorter than Esha. Esha is not standing adjacent to either Rudra or Heena. Tina is shorter than at least two persons.

Who among the following is shorter than three persons?

Answer

Correct Answer : b ) Tina

Explanation :

From the above figure, we can say that Tina is shorter than three persons i.e. Esha, Dharmendra, and Heena.

Hence, (B) is the correct answer.

Detail Solution

Let us analyze the information one by one and solve the puzzle accordingly

Information: Their PT teacher told them to form a line such that all of them face south direction and are standing in ascending order from west to east.

From the above information we can say that the line formed by six of the classmates will look like:

Information: Rudra is taller than only Sumit but shorter than Esha. Esha is not standing adjacent to either Rudra or Heena.

As Rudra is taller than only Sumit, so Sumit will be standing on the extreme right end. Now, Rudra is shorter than Esha; therefore, Esha will be standing on the left side of Rudra. But, Esha cannot be standing on the immediate left of Rudra as she cannot stand adjacent to either Rudra or Heena.

So, from the above information, there can be three possible cases:

Case 1: Esha sitting second to the left of Rudra

Case 2: Esha standing third to the left of Rudra

Case 3: Esha standing fourth to the left of Rudra

Information: Heena is standing immediate left of Dharmendra.

In the above arrangement, the only way Heena can stand immediate left of Dharmendra is that Heena has to be taller than Dharmendra.

Now, considering case 1: standing

In this case, Esha will be standing to the immediate right of Dharmendra.

Considering case 2:

In this case, Heena will be standing to the immediate right of Esha. But as Heena cannot be the neighbour of Esha. So, case 2 fails.

Considering case 3:

In this case, there can be two possibilities:

Possibility 1: Heena standing immediate right of Esha

Heena cannot be the neighbour of Esha, so this possibility fails.

Possibility 2: Heena standing second to the right of Esha.

Thus, depicting all the possible cases:

Case 1:

Case 3:

Information: Tina is shorter than at least two persons.

From the above information, we can say that there is no place left for Tina to stand in case 2 so case 2 fails.

Thus, the final arrangement will be
