In the following question the symbols @, #, $, and & have the meaning mentioned below.

‘A % B’ means ‘A is not smaller than B’

‘A # B’ means ‘A is neither greater than nor equal to B’

‘A $ B’ means ‘A is not greater than B’

‘A & B’ means ‘A is neither smaller than nor equal to B’

Which of the following conclusion will follow the statements?

Statements:

P $ Q % T # N # O & L

Conclusion:

I. P & N

II. T # O

III. Q = T

Explanation :

The meaning of the above given statements will be

‘A % B’ means ‘A is not smaller than B’ ⇒ A ≥ B

‘A # B’ means ‘A is neither greater than nor equal to B’ ⇒ A < B

‘A $ B’ means ‘A is not greater than B’ ⇒ A ≤ B

‘A & B’ means ‘A is neither smaller than nor equal to B’ ⇒ A > B

Considering the given statement

P $ Q % T # N # O & L

Now, changing the signs according to the question we can write the above equation as

P ≤ Q ≥ T < N < O > L

As the sign changes between P and N while we move from P to N, thus we cannot define any relationship between P and N, thus we can say that conclusion I i.e. ‘P & N ⇒ P > N’ does not follow the statement.

As, from the above equation we can say that T < O, thus conclusion II i.e. ‘T # O ⇒ P < N’ follows the statement.

Similarly, from the above equation we can say that P ≤ Q ≥ T so, conclusion III i.e P = T can be possible but not definite. Thus, we can say that conclusion III does not follow the given statement.

Hence, (c) is the correct answer.
