What will be the mean and median of the observations given below?

6, 1, 9, 9, 3, 4, 6, 1, 2, 4, 8

Answer

Correct Answer : a ) 4.818 and 4

Explanation :

\(Mean={Sum \ of\ all \ observation \over Number \ of \ observation}\)

⇒\({6+1+9+9+3+4+6+1+2+4+8} \over11\)

⇒\({53 \over 11}=4.818\)

Now, for calculating median of the data arrange all the observations in ascending order

1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6, 8, 9, 9

As, there are 11 observations

Thus, Median = 6th term

⇒ Median = 4

Hence, (a) is the correct answer.
