In a class of 135 students, the number of boys is twice that of girls. One-Sixth of the boys and one-third of the girls failed in the final examination. Find the percentage of students who passed the examination.

Explanation :

Let the number of girls be x

According to question:

Total number of students = 135

Total number of boys = 2x

⇒ x + 2x = 135

⇒ 3x = 135

⇒ x = number of girls = 45

Number of boys = 2x = 90

Total number of students failed in the examination = (90*1/6) + (45+1/3) = 30

Therefore, total number of students passed = 135 – 30 = 105

Thus, the required passing % = (105/135) * 100 = 77.78%

Hence, (c) is the correct answer.
