Question of The Day24-06-2022

Chapekar brothers were involved in the assassination of which of the following British officials?

Answer

Correct Answer : a ) W C Rand

Explanation :

On 22 June 1897, Chapekar brothers- Damodar Hari Chapekar, Balkrishna Hari Chapekar and Vasudeo Hari Chapekar murdered W C Rand who was appointed the chairman of the Special Plague Committee. The committee was appointed because the plague spread in Pune by early 1987.  The officer and soldiers appointed by W C Rand vandalized properties and religious symbols, stripped and examined occupants of private houses, and prevented the movement from the city. To put an end to this injustice, the Chapekar brothers killed Rand and his military escort Lieutenant Ayerst.

It was the first incident of the assassination of a British officer after the 1857 revolt.

In 1909, William Hutt Curzon Wylie was assassinated by Madan Lal Dhingra. In 1940, General Dyre was murdered by Udham Singh.

John Saunders was killed by Bhagat Singh and Rajguru in 1927.

Hence, option (A) is correct.
