FASTag is a new way for digital payment of toll tax. It can be purchased at zero cost for a period of five years. The government has recently decided to change deadline for getting FASTag from 1st December to 15th DecemberAfter 15th December, toll payments on National Highways will be made through FASTag only, and vehicles entering FASTag lane without FASTag will be charged double user fee.

The government has earlier made mandatory for all vehicles sold in India after December 2017 to have FASTag.  FASTag program was launched in 2014 on pilot basis.

It is being implemented by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). FASTags use Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology.
