Ankit and Shivam sold two articles at 20% and 40% profit respectively. If the total profit is Rs. 180 and the cost price of the article sold by Ankit is Rs. 75 less than the cost price of the article sold by Shivam. Find the cost price of the article sold by Shivam.
Answer
Correct Answer : c ) Rs. 325
Explanation :Let the cost price of the article of Ankit is Rs. x
According to question, Ankit earned 20% profit.
So, Profit of Ankit = 20% of x
Profit of Ankit = \(\frac{20}{100}\space*\space x\space=\space\frac{x}{5}\)
Shivam’s article’s cost price is Rs. 75 more than that of Ankit’s.
Cost price of Shivam’s article = Rs. (x + 75)
Since, Shivam earned 40% profit
Profit of Shivam = 40% of (x + 75)
Profit of Shivam = \(\frac{40}{100}\space*\space (x\space + \space 75)\space=\space\frac{2}{5}\space*\space (x\space + \space 75)\)
Total profit of Ankit and Shivam = Rs. 180
Profit of Ankit + Profit of Shivam = Rs. 180
\(\frac{x}{5}\space + \space\frac{2}{5}\space*\space (x\space + \space 75) \space = \space 180\)
x + 2x + 150 = 180 * 5
3x = 900 – 150
\(x \space = \space \frac{750}{3} \space = \space 250\)
Cost price of Ankit’s article = Rs. 250
Cost price of Shivam’s article = Rs. (x + 75)
Cost price of Shivam’s article = Rs (250 + 75) = Rs. 325
Hence, (c) is the correct answer
