Explanation :

As we know that

Fourth proportion to a, b and c is d such that a : b :: c : d, giving d = bc/a

Third proportion to a and b is c such that a : b :: b : c, giving c = (b²)/a

In the given question

fourth proportion to 12, 18 and 6 = third proportion to k and 6

fourth proportion to 12, 18 and 6 = 18*6/12 = 9

third proportion to k and 6 = 6 * 6/k = 36/ k

Equating 1 and 2

9 = 36/k

k = 4

Hence, (d) is the correct answer.
