1. National Institute of Design (Amendment) Bill, 2019 approved in Lok Sabha

  • National Institute of Design ( Amendment) Bill, 2019 has been approved by Lok Sabha. With this approval, the bill has been cleared by the Parliament.
  • This bill amends the National Institute of Design Act, 2014, in which the National Institute of design, Ahmedabad, was designated as the institution of National importance.
  • The amendment bill proposes to recognize four more National Institutes of Design located at Amravati (Andhra Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Jorhat (Assam) and Kurukshetra (Haryana) as the institutions of national importance.
  • Presently, these four institutions do not have the authority to grant degrees or diplomas.

 

2. National Milk Day observed on 26th November

  • On the occasion of National Milk Day, which is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Dr.Verghese Kurien (Father of India’s White Revolution), an event was organized in New Delhi.
  • India is the largest milk-producing country in the world, followed by USA and China.
  • Out of the total milk production across the world, 21% of the milk is produced in India.

 

3.  Israel made Anti-Tank Guided Missiles Spike inducted into Indian Army

  • Anti-Tank Guided Missile Spike built by Israel has been deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir.
  • It is the third generation medium-range missile, also known as the “fire and forget” missile.
  • Spike is men portable and is capable of destroying tanks and bust bunkers within a range of 4 kms.

 

4. NCT of Delhi (Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Unauthorized Colonies) Bill, 2019 introduced in Lok Sabha

  • NCT of Delhi (Recognition of property Right of Residents in Unauthorized Colonies) Bill, 2019 has been introduced in Lok Sabha by the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs.
  • The bill aims to provide ownership rights to the residents in unauthorized colonies.
  • The residents can claim for ownership rights on the basis of the following documents-
    • Power of Attorney
    • Agreement of sale
    • Will
    • Authorization slip
    • and, any such other document
  • The residents living in 1,731 unauthorized colonies will be allowed registration of properties.

 

5. Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2019 passed in Parliament

  • The bill prohibiting discrimination against transgender persons regarding employment, education, health care, right to movement, right to reside, etc. has been finally passed in the parliament.
  • The aim of the bill is to include the transgender persons into the mainstream of the society.
  • The condition of transgenders deteriorated in India after the introduction of Criminal Tribes Act, 1871 by the British.
  • Although in 1952 the Act was repealed but its after effects are still visible in the Indian society.
  • In 2011 Census, for the first time Transgenders were recognized as third gender.

 

6. UP’s 1st Vulture Conservation and Breeding Centre in Maharajganj

  • Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up the state’s first vulture conservation and breeding centre in Maharajganj district.
  • The centre will be established on the similar lines as Jatayu Conservation Breeding Centre at Pinjore, Haryana (first vulture conservation centre in India).
  • The population of vultures has declined from 40 million to 19,000 in last 30 years, as per the information provided by the Environment minister.
  • The centre in UP will be established in association with Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).
  • BNHS:
  • It is a non-governmental organisation that was founded in 1883.
  • Headquarter : Mumbai
  • Its primary aim is to create awareness about nature conservation through research, scientific publications and other programmes.

  • Five States – UP, Maharashtra , Madhya Pradesh , Delhi and West Bengal records more than 50% of the cases of crime against children .
  • UP topped the overall list of states reporting maximum number of crimes against children.

  • The last female Sumatran Rhinoceros named Iman died in Malaysia . With the death of Iman the Sumatran Rhinoceros have now become extinct in Malaysia .
  • The population of Sumatran Rhinoceros has declined by 70% in the last two decades due to poaching.
  • The biggest threat to Sumatran Rhinos is the isolation.
  • IUCN states of Sumatran Rhinos: Critically endangered.
