1. Nation celebrates 70th Constitution Day

  • 26th November is celebrated as the Constitution Day as on 26th November 1949 the Constituent Assembly adopted the Indian Constitution.
  • On this Day in 1949, a total of 284 members signed the Constitution.
  • It took 2 years 11 months and 18 days to finally draft the Constitution.
  • The Constitution, in its original form, had Preamble, 395 Articles and 8 schedules.
  • The Constitution came into force on 26th January 1950.

 

2. Finance Minister tabled Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in Lok Sabha

  • The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019 has been introduced in Lok Sabha.
  • The bill proposes that the domestic companies can pay the tax at the rate of 22% if they have not claimed certain deductions under the IT Act.
  • Also, the domestic manufacturing companies can opt to pay income tax at a 15% rate provided they have not claimed certain deductions under the IT Act.
  • Presently, domestic companies having an annual turnover of up to Rs. 400 crore are liable to pay income tax at the rate of 25%, while for other domestic companies, it is 30%.
  • Other Bills like the International Financial Services Centres Authority Bill, 2019, Recycling of Ships Bill, 2019 were also introduced.

 

3. Credit-Linked Subsidy Service Awas Portal launched

  • The Credit-Linked Subsidy Service Awas Portal- 'CLAP' was launched by the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri.
  • The Portal will help the beneficiary to track the status of his application on a real-time basis.
  • The portal will help in addressing the grievances of people and promote transparency.

 

4. Bangladesh floating school wins Aga Khan Architecture Award

  • The floating school in the South Kanarchor of Bangladesh named 'The Arcadia Education Project' has won the prestigious Age Khan Architecture Award.
  • This school project was initiated by Razia Alam and designed by the renowned architect of Bangladesh Saif Ul Haque.
  • Aga Khan Architecture Award is organized every three years by the Aga Khan Trust Culture.
  • The award is presented for recognizing the contribution in addressing the aspirations of Muslims Societies in countries having a significant Muslim population.
  • The winners are given 1 million dollar cash prize, which is equally shared among them.

 

5. 3-day Commonwealth Youth Parliament begins in New Delhi

  • For the first time, Delhi Assembly is hosting the Commonwealth Youth Parliament.
  • There will be 47 participants from 24 Commonwealth nations, along with 11 participants from India.
  • The Speaker of Lok Sabha Om Birla is the Chief Guest at the event.
  • It is an opportunity to showcase the importance and role of a legislature in democracy.

 

6. Supreme Court to give verdict on Maharashtra floor test

  • The Supreme Court will give its verdict today on a petition against government formation in Maharashtra.
  • Floor Test is a transparent procedure in which the ruling party has to prove its majority in the State Assembly.
  • The Speaker of the State Assembly conducts the process while there is no interference by the Governor.
  • When a floor test is conducted, the Chief Minister moves a vote of confidence to prove his majority. In case the Chief Minister fails to prove the majority support, he will have to resign.

 

7. Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (Merger of Union Territories) Bill, 2019 introduced in Lok Sabha

  • A bill to merge two union territories - Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu - has been tabled in Lok Sabha by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy.
  • The aim of the bill is to improve the delivery system and increased efficiency in the administration of both Union Territories.
  • Both these Union Territories attained independence from Portuguese rule in 1961 and Daman & Diu was made part of Goa.
  • When Goa was made a separate state in 1987, Daman and Diu was made a separate Union Territory.

 

8. Lakshya Sen Clinched Scottish Open Title

  • Indian Shuttler Lakshya Sen won the Scottish Open title in men's singles category.
  • He defeated Brazilian Ygor Coelho 18-21, 21-18, 21-19 to win the title.
  • This is his fourth title in three months after he clinched BWF Super 100 title at the Dutch Open, the SaarLorLux Open & Belgian International.

 

9. India bags three bronze medals at the Asian Archery Championships

  • Atanu Das bagged a bronze medal in men's recurve event while, in the recurve mixed team event, he along with Deepika Kumari won the second bronze for India.
  • Asian Archery Championships 2019 are being hosted by Bangkok, Thailand.

 

10. Sangram Dahiya and Varsha Varman win gold at National Shotgun Shooting Championship

  • Sangram Dahiya (Haryana) and Varsha Varman (Madhya Pradesh) won gold in double trap event at the 63rd National Shotgun Shooting Championship.
  • Sangram shot 142 out of 150 targets in men's category, thereby defeating Ankur Mittal in the finals.
  • Sangram and Varsha have also clinched team gold for their states.
