- Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated India’s first-of-its-kind CSIR Mega "Innovation Complex" at Mumbai on 17th January.
- The Innovation Complex has nine floors and has 24 ready-to-move incubation labs for innovative start-ups, MSMEs, industry partners, and CSIR labs
- This facility will provide high-end scientific infrastructure, expertise, and regulatory support to stakeholders for conducting SOP-driven studies.
- This facility has been designed to foster collaboration between start-ups, MSMEs, and CSIR’s network of researchers and innovators.
- This complex will act as a bridge between cutting-edge science and its application to address real-world challenges.
- This complex will support critical industrial sectors such as healthcare (pharma, biopharma, medtech), chemicals, materials, energy, and others relevant to CSIR labs.
- 1,000 scientists from CSIR labs across India and industry leaders, foreign delegates from Norway, Switzerland, and Germany participated in the inauguration event.

2. The United States has withdrawn from the World Health Organisation.
- Due to WHO's poor management of the COVID-19 pandemic and lack of reform, the US has quit from the organisation.
- The fact that WHO was not independent of the political influence of some member nations is another reason for leaving.
- Additionally, Trump has put a 90-day hold on all US foreign aid in order to assess its effectiveness and alignment with US foreign policy.
- Trump has made the decision to leave the WHO and the Paris Climate Accord.
- Through a written order, he has directed the Secretary of State to implement an America First policy.
- Trump said that the US is pulling out due to WHO's role in COVID.
- The US, under Trump, criticised the agency for being too sympathetic to China and withdrew from WHO.
- China accounts for approximately 90% of the WHO's funding.
- China is having1.4 billion people, which is 300 percent of the US population.
- Additionally, Trump declared that the United States will stop negotiating the WHO Pandemic Agreement.
- He stated that the United States will not be affected by the changes made to the International Health Regulations.

4. A new system for immediate IPO share sales is being planned by SEBI to curb grey market trading.
- In a bid to curb grey market trading, a system is being planned by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) where shares can be sold by investors as soon as they are allotted in an Initial Public Offering.
- SEBI Chairperson Ms Madhabi Puri Buch said that if investors wish to sell their shares soon after allotment or pre-listing, it is better to give them this opportunity in a properly organised and regulated manner.
- The SEBI board is considering allowing stock exchanges to introduce a so-called 'when-listed' platform, enabling investors to trade after allotment.
- Currently, there is a three-day gap (T+3) between the closure of the IPO and the listing of shares, while allotments are finalized within two days of the closure of the IPO.
- In December 2023, the IPO timeline was reduced from T+6 to T+3.
- SEBI is working on developing a standard IPO template and has started using artificial intelligence to review IPO documents.

6. Maharashtra signed multiple MoUs at World Economic Forum in Davos.
- In the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra signed Memorandums of Understanding totalling 38,750 crore rupees at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
- The Kalyani Group and the Maharashtra government signed first Memorandum of Understanding.
- This MoU covers the defence, steel, and electric vehicle sectors.
- It is expected that this MoU will bring in 5,250 crore rupees in investment and create 4,000 jobs in Gadchiroli.
- Maharashtra government and Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. inked the second Memorandum of Understanding in the defence sector. This is valued at 16,500 crore rupees.
- It is expected that 2,450 new jobs will be created under this MoU.
- The third MoU inked with Balasore Alloys Ltd. is worth 17,000 crore rupees.
- This MoU focuses on the steel and metals industry and would create 3,200 jobs.

7. As Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya took the oath of office.
- Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena administered the oath of office to him as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
- Justice Upadhyaya was the chief justice of Bombay High Court. On January 7, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended that he be transferred.
- He comes from from Uttar Pradesh. On November 21, 2011, he was named a judge of the Allahabad High Court.
- Justice Vibhu Bakhru was the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court upon Justice Manmohan's promotion to the Supreme Court.

8. Chhattisgarh government launched ‘Deendayal Upadhyay Bhoomiheen Krishi Majdoor Kalyana Yojana'.
- Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai launched 'Deendayal Upadhyay Bhoomiheen Krishi Majdoor Kalyana Yojana' in Raipur.
- Under this scheme, more than 5.62 lakh landless agricultural labourers, Baigas and Gunias of the state will receive the financial assistance of Rs 10,000 annually.
- About Rs 562 crores has been allocated for this scheme.
- The Chief Minister also participated in the 'Nagar Vikas Ke Sopan' program in Raipur and laid the foundation stone of 813 works worth Rs 155.38 crore.
- He also inaugurated 70 works worth Rs 15.25 crore in various urban bodies of the state.

9. ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme has completed 10 years.
- The government is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was launched by the prime minister on January 22, 2015 at Panipat, Haryana.
- ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme resolves the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of women empowerment.
- It prevented gender-biased sex-selective elimination and promoted the survival, protection and education of the girl child.
- This scheme has created a strong foundation for valuing and protecting every girl child.
- Through this scheme, the focus will be on making long-term changes through inclusive policies, better implementation, and active community participation.

10. A demo of restarting the Vikas liquid engine is carried out by ISRO.
- A demonstration of restarting the Vikas liquid engine was successfully carried out by the Indian Space Research Organisation at a test facility at the Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri.
- The Vikas engine is the engine that powers the liquid stages of its launch vehicles.
- The test, which took place on January 17, is a milestone in the development of technologies for recovery of stages, which will lead to reusability in future launch vehicles.
- Several tests are being conducted to confirm the engine restartability under different conditions.
- In this test, the engine was started for 60 seconds, after which it was turned off for 120 seconds, and then restarted and ran for seven seconds duration.
- Apart from this, the Core Liquid Stage (L110) of ISRO's LVM3 launch vehicle was flagged off by ISRO Chairman V Narayanan for the launch complex at Sriharikota.
- The Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) designed and developed the stage during the development of the LVM3 launch vehicle and powered it with twin Vikas engines, featuring a propellant loading of 110 tonnes.

11. Statehood day of Manipur, Tripura, and Meghalaya: 21 January
- Every year on January 21, the Statehood Day of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura is celebrated.
- PM Narendra Modi congratulated the people of Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur on their 53rd Statehood Day.
- The three states that attained statehood under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act of 1971 celebrated their 53rd anniversary of statehood this year.
- North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act of 1971 became effective on January 21, 1972.
- Manipur and Tripura were princely states, which were included in India in October 1949. Then the states were given the status of union territories.
- In 1970, Meghalaya became an autonomous state within Assam.
- In 1972, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Manipur were given full statehood by the North Eastern Reorganization Act, 1972.

12. US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border.
- Donald Trump announced several restrictions on immigration and asylum in the United States.
- He said that troops would be sent to the US-Mexico border and would end birthright citizenship.
- He will seek to revoke the right of US nationality to anyone born in America.
- The emergency on the US-Mexico border will give special presidential powers.
- Under these powers, Donald Trump could use federal funding for border wall construction and could deploy the military and National Guard to the border.
- He also signed an order declaring Mexican drug cartels terrorist organizations.

13. Haryana government notified the Vehicle Scrappage and Recycling Facility Incentive Policy 2024.
- The main aim of the initiative is to ensure the proper disposal and recycling of old vehicles, promoting environmental sustainability by reducing pollution.
- The initiative will enable proper disposal and recycling of old vehicles.
- The number of scrapped vehicles is continuously increasing after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) fixed the life of old diesel vehicles to 10 years and 15 years for petrol vehicles.
- Under this policy, vehicle owners will also get financial benefits and public will get relief from junk vehicles parked on roads, streets and other public places.
- The government will offer capital subsidies or state GST reimbursement to new industrial units.
- The government will develop a 10-year land leasing module through the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
