  • This date marks the birth and death anniversaries of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.
  • He was a key figure in advancing the country’s healthcare system.
  • Dr. Roy played an important role in shaping India’s medical infrastructure.
  • The first National Doctors’ Day was celebrated on July 1, 1991.
  • The theme for 2025 is “Behind the Mask: Caring for Caregivers.”
  • The word ‘doctor’ comes from the Latin word docere. Docere means “to teach.”
  • Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy also served as the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
  • Dr. Roy was honoured with Bharat Ratna in 1961.

2. Chartered Accountants Day 2025: 1 July

  • Chartered Accountants Day is celebrated every year on 1 July to mark the foundation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

  • This year, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is celebrating its 77th foundation day.
  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri was the Chief Guest at the Foundation Day of the ICAI at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
  • The occasion celebrated a decade of change marked by unprecedented economic growth and social progress under the Government of India.
  • ICAI was formed on 1 July 1949 after the passing of the Chartered Accounts Act of 1949.

3. PM Modi conferred Ghana’s highest civilian honor during a historic state visit.

  • On 2 July, Ghana’s highest civilian award, Officer of the Order of the Star, was conferred upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi by President John Dramani Mahama in Accra.
  • The award was presented in recognition of Modi’s distinguished global leadership and efforts to strengthen India’s international partnerships.
  • The honor was accepted by Prime Minister Modi on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians and dedicated to the aspirations of India’s youth and cultural legacy.
  • Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude towards Ghana’s people and government for the esteemed recognition.
  • The Prime Minister emphasized that the award strengthens the friendship between the two nations and brings renewed responsibility to deepen ties.
  • Earlier, the PM announced that India will set up a skill development center to train youth and support Ghana's 'Feed Ghana' program as part of a comprehensive plan to strengthen ties between the two countries.
  • India pledged to double ITEC and ICCR scholarships, promote digital transactions through Bharat UPI, and expand cooperation in education, health, defense, and agriculture.
  • Affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras and collaboration in vaccine production were also discussed as part of health sector cooperation.
  • This marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over three decades, reflecting India’s increasing engagement with Africa and the Global South.

4. Six-year-old Teghbir became the youngest person in the world to climb Mount Elbrus.

  • Teghbir Singh from Punjab set a world record by becoming the youngest person ever to summit Mount Elbrus, the tallest peak in Russia and Europe.

  • The 18,510-foot climb was completed by the six-year-old along with his father, Mr. Sukhinderdeep Singh, between June 20 and June 28.
  • A certificate recognizing Teghbir's feat was issued by the Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, and Sports Tourism Federation of Russia’s Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
  • Teghbir achieved this milestone at the age of 6 years, 9 months, and 4 days, breaking the previous record set at age 7.
  • In August 2024, Teghbir had become the youngest Asian to scale Mount Kilimanjaro, earning a place in the Asia and India Book of Records.
  • Prior to this, in April 2024, he successfully trekked to the Everest Base Camp in Nepal.

5. Smriti Mandhana created double records in women's international cricket.

  • Indian opener Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman to score centuries in all three formats of international cricket.
  • The milestone was achieved during the first T20I against England in Nottingham, where she scored a 112-run knock off just 62 balls.
  • Mandhana’s innings included 15 boundaries and 3 sixes, striking at a rate of 180.65, setting a high benchmark in women’s T20I performances.
  • Only five cricketers globally have achieved all-format centuries in women’s cricket, placing Mandhana among elite company.
  • Alongside her milestone century, a 77-run stand was formed with Shafali Verma, followed by a 94-run partnership with Harleen Deol.
  • Furthermore, Mandhana and Verma also became the highest partnership pair in women's T20Is, scoring 2724 runs together, breaking the record of Healy and Mooney.

6. The RECLAIM, a community engagement and development framework, is set to be launched by the Ministry of Coal.

  • On 4th July, 2025, the Union Minister of Coal and Mines Sh. G. Kishan Reddy will launch the framework.
  • Coal Controller Organisation, under the Ministry of Coal has developed this comprehensive community development framework in collaboration with the Heartfulness Institute.
  • In particular, it is designed for communities affected by mine closure.
  • Mine closure has significant impacts on both landscapes and local livelihoods.
  • This framework is therefore an important step towards ensuring a just and sustainable transition for communities that have evolved alongside mining operations over decades.
  • This framework, called RECLAIM, serves as a clear guide for inclusive community engagement and development during the mine closure and post-closure phases.
  • The framework provides a practical, step-by-step approach to institutionalising community participation in this process of change.
  • The framework is supported by actionable tools, templates, and field-tested methodologies tailored to the Indian context.
  • It has a special emphasis on gender inclusiveness, representation of vulnerable groups, and is tailored to Panchayati Raj Institutions to ensure that the entire process of change is equitable and locally relevant.
  • The aim is to promote ecological restoration and secure socio-economic stability in mining-dependent areas.

7. The Quad strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025.

  • The attack killed 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.
  • Quad members called for immediate action to hold the perpetrators, planners, and financiers accountable.
  • They urged all UN Member States to cooperate in line with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
  • The leaders reaffirmed their firm opposition to terrorism in all forms. This included a clear condemnation of cross-border terrorism.
  • The Quad announced the launch of the Critical Minerals Initiative.
  • This initiative aims to improve economic security and create resilient supply chains across the Indo-Pacific.
  • They also revealed plans for the Quad Ports of the Future Partnership in Mumbai.
  • A field training exercise under the Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network is planned for this year.
  • This exercise will enhance shared airlift capability and collective logistics strength.
  • The Quad emphasized its commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
  • They also pledged joint efforts to tackle cybercrime and online scams.
  • The joint statement was issued by Dr. S. Jaishankar of India, Marco Rubio of the US, Penny Wong of Australia, and Takeshi Iwaya of Japan.

8. India’s scheduled commercial banks have improved their financial stability.

  • Gross NPAs dropped to 2.3%, and net NPAs fell to 0.5%.
  • These are the lowest levels seen in several decades.
  • Between March 2024 and March 2025, gross NPAs declined from 2.8% to 2.3%.
  • This reflects stronger asset quality across the banking system.
  • Public-sector banks showed a sharp improvement in asset quality.
  • Their gross NPA ratio fell from 3.7% to 2.8% during the same period.
  • Private-sector banks kept their gross NPA ratio steady at 2.8%.
  • The RBI’s Financial Stability Report highlighted strong capital buffers and healthy earnings.
  • These factors support the overall resilience of the banking sector.
  • Stress tests indicated that banks would remain well-capitalized even in adverse conditions.
  • Urban cooperative banks have improved their capital positions.
  • Non-banking financial companies continue to maintain capital levels above the regulatory minimum.
  • The insurance sector’s solvency ratio remains above the required threshold.
  • This applies to both life and non-life insurance segments.

9. Divyanshi Bhowmick created history for India in table tennis.

  • She won the U-15 Girls’ Singles title at the 29th Asian Youth Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
  • She defeated China’s Zhu Qihi with a 4-2 scoreline in the final.
  • This victory secured her a place in the World Youth Championships.
  • In the semifinals, she overcame China’s Liu Ziling in a tight seven-game match.
  • The 14-year-old became  the first Indian in 36 years to win the U15 girls’ singles continental title.
  • Subramanian Bhuvaneswari was the last Indian to win the girls’ title in this age group.
  • Subramanian Bhuvaneswari  achieved this at the 1989 edition of the tournament. The event was hosted in New Delhi.
  • India finished the championship with a total of four medals.
  • These included one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
  • Top seeds Ankur Bhattacharyya and P.B. Abhinand faced an early exit in U-19 Boys’ Doubles.
  • They lost to an unseeded Malaysian pair in a surprising upset.

10. Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C. R. Patil, launched C-FLOOD, a unified flood forecasting system.

  • C-FLOOD is a web-based platform that provides flood forecasts up to two days in advance.
  • It offers detailed flood maps and water level predictions at the village level.
  • The system was jointly developed by C-DAC Pune and the Central Water Commission under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • The launch ceremony took place at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • C-FLOOD combines flood modeling data from national and regional agencies into one decision-support platform.
  • Currently, it covers the Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi river basins.
  • Plans are underway to include more river basins in the future.
  • The platform uses advanced two-dimensional hydrodynamic modeling techniques.
  • Simulations run on high-performance computing infrastructure at C-DAC Pune.
