1. World Zoonoses Day: 6 July

  • World Zoonoses Day is observed every year on 6 July to raise awareness about zoonotic diseases.
  • This day commemorates the successful administration of the first vaccine against a zoonotic disease.
  • French biologist Louis Pasteur successfully administered the first vaccine against Rabies virus on 6 July 1885.
  • Zoonoses are the infectious diseases that spread from animals to humans through direct contact with infected animals. These can be caused by bacteria, virus or parasites.
  • The most common zoonoses diseases are Plague, Rabies, Tuberculosis, Scabies, Roundworms, etc.

2. Equestrian Statue of Peshwa Bajirao unveiled at NDA by Union Home Minister

  • On 4 July, the equestrian statue of the legendary Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I has been unveiled at the National Defence Academy (NDA) campus in Pune by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
  • The statue has been installed at NDA, the premier training institute for future officers of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
  • The Home Minister stressed that Bajirao's leadership and military strategy are relevant even today.
  • The NDA cadets have been encouraged to draw inspiration from Bajirao’s dedication, bravery, and service to the nation.
  • Bajirao Peshwa is remembered for leading 41 victorious campaigns within a span of just 20 years.
  • The statue is intended to serve as a symbol of patriotism, discipline, and sacrifice for future military leaders.
  • Peshwa Bajirao I was the 7th Peshwa of the Maratha Empire.
  • He was one of the most celebrated generals of the Maratha Empire, serving as the Peshwa to Chhatrapati Shahu from 1720 to 1740.
  • Known for his military genius and swift cavalry tactics, he expanded the Maratha influence across central and northern India.
  • Bajirao never lost a battle in his career, earning a reputation as one of India’s greatest military commanders.

3. The defense minister inaugurated Controllers’ Conference 2025.

  • On July 7, the Controllers’ Conference 2025 inaugurated by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • The three-day event, hosted by the Defence Accounts Department (DAD), will be held from July 7 to 9.
  • The conference aims to bring together India’s defense and financial leadership to shape the future of defense financial governance.
  • The theme for this year is “Transforming Financial Advice, Payment, Audit, and Accounting through Defense Finance and Economics.”
  • The Defense Ministry said that the new mission statement and motto of the department— ‘Alert, Agile, Adaptive'—will 'also be unveiled during the event.
  • Eight key business sessions, known as Manan Satras, will address major areas such as audit reform, pricing innovation, and capacity building.
  • Managing the Rs 26.8 lakh crore defense budget—which includes Rs 1.7 lakh crore for pensions—the DAD plays a key role in disbursement, procurement pricing, audit, and strategic advice.
  • Digital initiatives such as SAMPURNA, SPARSH, e-Raksha Awaas, and AI-driven procurement systems have been implemented to improve transparency.
  • The Controllers’ Conference is expected to yield actionable outcomes as part of the Ministry of Defence’s declaration of 2025 as the Year of Reform.
  • These outcomes are aimed at building a smarter, more agile defense financial architecture that supports Atmanirbhar Bharat and enhances India’s long-term national security.

4. India ranked 4th among the World’s Most Equal Societies by the World Bank.

  • India has been ranked as the fourth most equal society globally by the World Bank, based on its Gini Index score.
  • A Gini Index score of 25.5 has been recorded for India, placing it just behind the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Belarus.
  • The Gini index is a simple but powerful way to understand how evenly income, wealth, or consumption is distributed among households or individuals in a country.
  • India is placed in the “moderately low” inequality category, which ranges from a score of 25 to 30.
  • India is only a few points away from the “low inequality” group, where top performers score below 25.5.
  • This includes countries like the Slovak Republic with 24.1 points, Slovenia with 24.3 points, and Belarus with 24.4 points.
  • India’s score surpasses that of 167 other countries for which the World Bank has released data.
  • India’s score is significantly lower than China’s 35.7 and the United States’ 41.8.
  • A consistent drop from 28.8 in 2011 to 25.5 in 2022 reflects India’s progress toward social equity.

5. The 7th International Conference of the Innovative Physician Forum inaugurated by Om Birla.

  • On 5 July, the 7th Annual International Conference of the Innovative Physician Forum—IPF MEDICON 2025—was inaugurated in New Delhi by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
  • It was organized by the Innovative Physicians Forum from 5 to 6 July.
  • The theme of the conference was “The Future of Internal Medicine: Education, Research & Practice in the Changing World.”

6. International Day of Cooperatives 2025: 5 July

  • Every year on the first Saturday in July, the International Day of Cooperatives is observed.
  • This year, the day was celebrated on 5 July around the world. The day is commonly known as Coops Day.
  • The United Nations has declared the year 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives.
  • The theme of the 103rd International Day of Cooperatives 2025 is “Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World.”
  • The day raises awareness about how cooperatives work together for social, cultural, and economic growth.
  • Since 1923, cooperatives around the world have celebrated this day, which was formally proclaimed by the UNGA on the ICA's centennial in 1995.
  • On December 16, 1992, the UNGA passed a resolution to declare the first Saturday of July 1995 the International Day of Cooperatives.
  • There are 3 million cooperatives worldwide, with the 300 largest cooperatives generating a turnover of US$2,409.41 billion.

7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

  • The summit was held on July 6–7, 2025.
  • Leaders held wide-ranging discussions on global governance reform, the Global South, peace and security, multilateralism, development, and Artificial Intelligence.
  • PM Modi delivered remarks at the opening session on “Reform of Global Governance and Peace and Security.”
  • Later, he spoke at a session on “Strengthening Multilateral, Economic-Financial Affairs and Artificial Intelligence.”
  • He pointed out that current global institutions were created in a different era.
  • These institutions are not equipped to handle today’s challenges.
  • He welcomed the strong wording on UN reform included in the Summit Declaration.
  • He mentioned the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack as an attack on all of humanity.
  • He insisted that there should be zero tolerance for terrorism.
  • In the second session, he highlighted the importance of BRICS in a changing global order.
  • PM Modi offered four proposals to strengthen BRICS cooperation.
  • First, the BRICS New Development Bank should follow a demand-driven model and ensure project sustainability.
  • Second, he suggested creating a joint Science and Research repository for the Global South.
  • Third, he called for efforts to secure and strengthen critical mineral supply chains.
  • Fourth, he urged BRICS to promote responsible AI governance.
  • The summit concluded with the adoption of the ‘Rio de Janeiro Declaration’ by all member states.
  • PM Modi met with Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  • He also met the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, on the sidelines of the Summit.

8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with the ‘Key to the City of Buenos Aires.’

  • The award was presented by Jorge Macri, the Head of the City Government.
  • The award acknowledged PM Modi’s contribution to enhancing India-Argentina relations.
  • During his visit, he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Buenos Aires.
  • He also honoured Rabindranath Tagore at his statue in the city.
  • PM Modi mentioned that Tagore had visited Argentina in 1924.
