1. Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu created a new national record in the  snatch, clean and jerk, and overall total.

  • Chanu lifted 205kg at the National Weightlifting Championships 2026 and broke three national records in the women's 48 kg category.
  • This performance earned her the gold medal. Radha Soni and Komal Kohar secured silver and bronze, respectively.
  • She opened her campaign with an 89kg lift in the snatch. She then lifted 116kg in the clean and jerk.
  • Her combined total exceeded her previous best by 6kg.
  • Earlier, she had a record of a 199kg total at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Forde.
  • She previously owned the national total record in the 48kg division.
  • Mirabai won Olympic silver at the Tokyo 2020 Games in the 49kg category.
  • She won gold at the 2023 Commonwealth Championships.
  • Mirabai is expected to move to the 53kg category after the Asian Games.
  • All her major international medals have come in sub-50kg category.
  • National Weightlifting Championship 2026 are being held in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh.

2. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar emphasized the need for global cooperation on critical minerals.

  • The need for structured global cooperation on critical minerals was highlighted by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Washington DC.
  • His remarks were delivered at the inaugural Critical Minerals Ministerial hosted by the United States.
  • Challenges arising from excessive concentration of critical mineral supply chains were emphasised during the address.
  • India’s support for the FORGE initiative on critical minerals was formally conveyed at the ministerial.
  • National initiatives such as the Critical Minerals Mission and Rare Earth Corridors were highlighted as steps toward resilience.
  • The importance of responsible commerce and de-risking global supply chains was underlined.
  • US Vice President J.D. Vance stressed that critical minerals are as essential as oil and gas for modern economies.
  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for collective innovation and affordability in supply chains.
  • Before the ministerial meeting began, Dr. Jaishankar met with several global counterparts, including Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Singapore's Vivian Balakrishnan.
  • The United States hosted the first Critical Minerals Ministerial in Washington, D.C.
  • Delegations from more than 50 countries participated to enhance cooperation on securing and diversifying global critical mineral supply chains.

3. First-of-its-Kind Women-Led Industrial Park inaugurated in Karnataka.

  • On 4 February, a first-of-its-kind women-led industrial park initiative was inaugurated at Gowribidanur in Karnataka, marking a significant milestone in women-centric industrial development.
  • The project was formally launched by FICCI FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation) Bangalore, the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
  • The FLO Bangalore Industrial Park was inaugurated in the presence of senior leaders from FLO, the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), and Karnataka Udyog Mitra (KUM).
  • The industrial park has been planned as a 50-acre exclusive zone for FLO Bengaluru members.
  • It aims to reduce long-standing entry barriers that have historically restricted women, especially first-generation entrepreneurs, from entering manufacturing and large-scale enterprises.
  • It was stated that the park represents a shift not only in infrastructure but also in mindset regarding women-led industries.
  • Gowribidanur was selected for its balanced connectivity, available infrastructure and long-term growth potential.
  • The project is expected to promote decentralised industrial growth by generating local employment beyond metropolitan centres.
  • The park has been designed as a complete ecosystem with single-window approvals, financial access and business guidance.
  • Shared facilities such as skill centres, creche facilities and R&D support are planned to address the practical needs of women entrepreneurs.

4. 9th edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ held on February 6.

  • The ninth edition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship student interaction programme, Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) held.
  • The programme has been organised for the first time as a multi-location nationwide interaction.
  • The session was broadcast live on Doordarshan, the Prime Minister’s YouTube channel and Ministry of Education platforms.
  • It will also be streamed on OTT platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Jio, ZEE5, Sony LIV and Spotify.
  • The programme has been conducted across five locations, including New Delhi, Coimbatore, Raipur, Dev Mogra and Guwahati.
  • The initiative aims to help students manage exam stress and view examinations as a positive experience.
  • It aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 by promoting holistic well-being and confidence among learners.
  • Pariksha Pe Charcha has evolved into a nationwide Jan Andolan involving students, parents and teachers.
  • Registrations for the ninth edition crossed previous records with over 4.5 crore participants on MyGov.
  • Pre-event activities witnessed participation of around 4.81 crore students across schools nationwide.

5. DRDO hosted 24th Indo-US Joint Technical Group meeting on Defence Technologies.

  • The 24th Indo-US Joint Technical Group Plenary Meeting was hosted by DRDO in New Delhi.
  • On 5 February, the two-day meeting concluded with a review of ongoing cooperation in defence science and technologies.
  • Discussions were held on challenges and proposals to strengthen collaboration in critical and emerging technologies.
  • Focus was placed on meeting evolving defence requirements through joint research and development efforts.
  • Greater participation of universities, defence laboratories and industries was emphasised during deliberations.
  • The meeting was co-chaired by DRDO’s Dr Chandrika Kaushik and US official Michael Francis Dodd.
  • Senior scientists, technocrats and officials from both countries took part in the discussions.
  • Indian participation included officials from the Tri-Services, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of External Affairs.

7. Walmart reached a $1 trillion market valuation and became the first retailer ever to reach market valuation of $1 trillion.

  • The company attracts higher-income shoppers seeking value and convenience and retains its traditional lower-income customer base.

  • It also launched Walmart+ to compete with Amazon Prime and invested heavily and early in artificial intelligence.
  • About one in every four dollars spent on groceries in the U.S. goes to Walmart.
  • Walmart’s valuation challenges the idea that only tech firms reach $1 trillion.
  • John Furner became Walmart’s global CEO on February 1.
  • Walmart recently joined the Nasdaq-100 Index, which includes the most valuable non-financial U.S. companies.

8. A draft Energy Transition Blueprint for Andhra Pradesh has been prepared by NITI Aayog.

  • The blueprint has been prepared to transform Andhra Pradesh into a leading renewable energy hub.
  • In the Energy Transition Blueprint, Andhra Pradesh to be one of India’s top three renewable energy hubs.
  • The blueprint proposes investments of about 7.5 lakh crore rupees in the energy sector.
  • The draft blueprint was handed over by NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam to Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand at the State Secretariat in Amaravati.
  • The blueprint also aims to make sure that clean, affordable and reliable electricity is available for all consumers.
  • The blueprint positions Andhra Pradesh as a major renewable energy export hub by 2035.
  • The blueprint has been prepared under the ASSET (Accelerating Sustainable State Energy Transition) platform of NITI Aayog.
  • According to the draft estimates, 47% of the state’s installed power capacity currently comes from renewable sources.

9. Samrat Rana and Suruchi Singh won the silver medal at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2026 in New Delhi on 5 February 2026.

  • Samrat Rana and Suruchi Singh competed together in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
  • Samrat Rana is the reigning world champion and Suruchi Singh is a World Cup final winner.
  • India continued to dominate the competition. The number of India's gold medal reached 10 after two days of events.
  • Rashmika Sahgal and Vanshika Chaudhary competed in the junior women’s 10m air pistol event.
  • Priyanshi Purva and Chahek Kohla competed in the youth women’s 10m air pistol event.
  • India's medal also included five silver medals and one bronze medal.
  • Uzbekistan ranked second in the medal table after securing three gold medals.
  • India added more gold medals in team events. Rashmika Sahgal and Vanshika Chaudhary were part of the junior women’s air pistol team.
  • Agam Grewal completed the trio. They scored a combined total of 1714. This was 43 points more than score of Kazakhstan.
  • Priyanshi Purva, Chahek Kohla and Shiksha Saran competed in the women’s youth air pistol team event. They won gold with a total score of 1709.
  • Kazakhstan finished second again with score of 1627.
  • The 2026 Asian Rifle/Pistol Championships is being held from 2 to 14 February 2026.
  • The venue of 2026 Asian Rifle/Pistol Championships is Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi.

10. Indian Railways has launched a new DEMU train, which is the first in the country to use an LNG–diesel dual-fuel system.

  • The train is operational at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
  • The driving power cars of the 1,400 HP DEMU train have been changed into a dual-fuel system.
  • It makes use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to replace approximately 40% of the traditional diesel consumption.
  • The converted power cars completed successful field trials. The trials covered more than 2,000 kilometers.
  • After trials, the converted power cars are currently in regular passenger service without any operational issues.
  • The dual-fuel system reduces carbon dioxide emissions and cuts nitrogen oxide emissions.
  • This helps improve air quality along rail routes and offers long-term economic savings for Indian Railways.
