2. India won Asia Cup Hockey title, qualified for 2026 World Cup.

3. Senior journalist Sankarshan Thakur passed away at the age of 63.
- On September 8, 2025, Sankarshan Thakur, Editor of The Telegraph, passed away in a Gurgaon hospital.
- He had been ailing for some time and had recently undergone surgery.
- Thakur was widely respected for incisive political analysis and ground reporting.
- He authored books such as Making of Laloo Yadav, The Unmaking of Bihar, Single Man: The Life and Times of Nitish Kumar, and The Brothers Bihari.
- Educated at St. Xavier High School, Patna, and Hindu College, Delhi University, he later joined journalism.
- He won the Prem Bhatia Award in 2001 for excellence in political journalism.

4. A ₹21,000 crore MoU signed by PNB with the Rajasthan government.
- On 6 September, Punjab National Bank (PNB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rajasthan government under the Rising Rajasthan initiative.
- The MoU commits ₹21,000 crore in financial support for the state’s socio-economic development.
- PNB MD & CEO Ashok Chandra said the bank was “delighted to partner in Rajasthan’s ambitious growth story.”
- During his Jaipur visit, Chandra distributed 2,000 loan sanction letters to women entrepreneurs.
- The self-help group loan distribution ceremony was attended by nearly 3,000 members.

5. India won maiden gold in Men’s Compound at the World Archery Championships 2025.
- On 7 September, India’s men’s compound team won its first-ever gold medal at the World Archery Championships in Gwangju, Korea.
- The trio of Rishabh Yadav, Aman Saini, and Prathamesh Fuge defeated France 235-233 in a thrilling final.
- After losing the first end, India fought back to level scores in the second.
- The contest stayed tight until the last round, when India produced three perfect 10s.
- France, under pressure, scored two 9s and a 10, sealing India’s victory.
- Rishabh Yadav also paired with V. Jyothi Surekha to win silver in the mixed team event against the Netherlands.

6. International Literacy Day 2025: 8 September
- Every year on 8 September, International Literacy Day is observed.
- It is observed to raise awareness about literacy as a human right and to encourage the creation of a more literate society.
- The theme of the International Literacy Day 2025 is ‘Promoting literacy in the digital era.’
- This year marks the 58th anniversary of International Literacy Day, which aims to promote efforts to increase literacy in order to build more sustainable societies.
- On 26 October 1966, UNESCO declared September 8 as International Literacy Day. In 1967, first International Literacy Day was celebrated.
- This day was included under the UN’s program for achieving Sustainable Development Goals in 2015.
- This year, a global conference was held on 8 September at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, to discuss digitalisation and its impact on literacy.

7. India will host the 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships.
- 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships will take place in Bhubaneswar from October 11 to 15.
- The Table Tennis Federation of India announced this recently.
- The championships will include separate team events for men and women.
- It will also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships.
- Thirteen teams from each category will earn qualification for the 2026 event.
- This is the first time Odisha will host an Asian-level table tennis tournament.
- Odisha had earlier hosted the 2019 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships.
- Bhubaneswar is widely regarded as India’s sports capital.
- The city has hosted several major sporting events in recent years.

8. Bhupender Gupta has officially taken over as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited on September 4.
- Before assuming this role, he was serving as Director (Technical) at THDC India Ltd.
- He also held additional responsibility as CMD of SJVN Ltd.
- He joined SJVN in 1995 and worked there for over twelve years.
- At SJVN, he was involved in the development and operation of the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Plant.
- This is India’s largest operational hydroelectric project.
- From 2002 to 2005, he was deputed to Bhutan and in Bhutan he contributed to the 1,020 MW Tala Hydroelectric Project.
- In 2020, he was appointed Director (Technical) at the Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project Authority in Bhutan. There, he resolved contract-related issues.

9. Kokichi Akuzawa has become the oldest person to reach the summit of Mount Fuji at 102 years old.

Kokichi Akuzawa completed the climb on August 5.
- His 70-year-old daughter, Motoe, accompanied him.
- His granddaughter, her husband, and four friends from a climbing club also joined him.
- The group camped for two nights on their way to the top.
- Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest peak, standing at 3,776 meters (12,388 feet).
- Akuzawa had previously set the same record at the age of 96.
- This marks the second time he has become the oldest person to climb Mount Fuji.
- He followed a strict training schedule before the climb. He climbed one mountain per week.
- Most of these training climbs were in the Nagano region.
- Guinness World Records has officially recognized his achievement.
- He lives in Maebashi, about 150 miles (241 kilometers) northwest of Tokyo.
