1. Sujeet Kalkal has secured gold at U-23 World Wrestling Championships.

  • This is first-ever world title of Kalkal. He already had one U-20 Asian Championship gold and two U-23 Asian titles.
  • Sujeet Kalkal competed in the men’s freestyle 65-kilogram category.
  • Kalkal won over Uzbekistan’s Umidjon Jalolov with a 10-0 win.
  • At the same event, Indian women's wrestling team won 5 bronze medals and 2 silver medals.
  • At the same event, Indian women's wrestling team also secured the team championship title.
  • In the men’s Under-23 Senior World Wrestling Championship of 2025, Sujeet's medal is the only medal for India.

2. Nagaland will host the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference next month.

  • The 22nd Annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III Conference is set to be hosted by Nagaland next month.
  • The event will take place at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from November 9 to 13, 2025.
  • The theme for this year’s conference is “Policy, Progress & People: Legislatures as Catalysts of Change.”
  • The conference will provide a platform for the eight northeastern states to discuss regional challenges and find common solutions.
  • It will cover topics ranging from economic development to policy issues and develop a strong, unified voice for the region.
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will serve as the Chief Patron, while Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will act as the Vice Patron.
  • Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, who also chairs the CPA India Region Zone-III, has invited presiding officers from all northeastern legislatures.
  • The five-day event will include plenary sessions, workshops, expert panels, exhibitions, and cultural programs.
  • Legislative innovation, procedural reforms, transparency, and inclusive governance will be key focus areas of the discussions.

3. An MoU signed between HAL and Russian UAC for the production of civilian aircraft SJ-100.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) for the production of SJ-100 commuter aircraft.
  • The signing took place in Moscow on October 27, 2025, between Prabhat Ranjan from HAL and Oleg Bogomolov from UAC.
  • The SJ-100 is a twin-engine, narrow-body aircraft and to date, over 200 aircraft have been produced and are operated by over 16 commercial airline operators.
  • HAL stated that the aircraft will significantly boost regional air connectivity under the UDAN scheme.
  • Under the arrangement, HAL will receive manufacturing rights to supply SJ-100 aircraft to domestic customers.
  • This will also be the first instance of the production of a full-fledged passenger aircraft in India.
  • The last such project was the production of the Avro HS-748 by HAL, which began in 1961 and ended in 1988.
  • It is estimated that India will require over 200 aircraft of this category in the next decade for regional routes.
  • An additional demand of around 350 aircraft is expected for the Indian Ocean region to serve nearby international tourist destinations.
  • HAL emphasized that manufacturing the SJ-100 will support the goal of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and generate both direct and indirect employment.

4. Smriti Mandhana ranked World No. 1 in Women’s ODI Batting with 828 rating points.

  • Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana has been ranked number one in the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings.
  • She has achieved a rating of 828 points, placing her nearly 100 points ahead of the second-ranked Ashleigh Gardner of Australia.
  • Her performance in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, including a 109 against New Zealand and an unbeaten 34 against Bangladesh, contributed significantly to the ranking rise.
  • She was also awarded ICC Women’s Player of the Month for September 2025.
  • Her opening partner, Pratika Rawal, climbed to 27th place with 564 points before withdrawing from the tournament due to injury.
  • In the bowling rankings, England’s Sophie Ecclestone continues to lead with 747 points.
  • Australia’s Alana King moved into the second position among bowlers.
  • Ashleigh Gardner slid to third in the bowling rankings.

5. Actress Prunella Scales, popular for her role in 'Fawlty Towers', passed away at the age of 93.

  • On 27 October, British actress Prunella Scales passed away peacefully at her home in London at the age of 93.
  • She had been living with vascular dementia since 2013 and had retired from public life.
  • She was best known for playing Sybil Fawlty in the BBC sitcom Fawlty Towers (1975–1979).
  • Her co-star John Cleese paid tribute, calling her a brilliant and wonderfully skilled comic performer.
  • She also portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in A Question of Attribution (1991), earning a BAFTA nomination.
  • Her career spanned more than 70 years across stage, film, radio, and television.

6. Argentine President Javier Milei won a landslide victory in midterm elections.

  • A landslide victory has been secured by Argentina’s President Javier Milei in the midterm elections.
  • His party, La Libertad Avanza, won nearly 41% of the national vote.
  • The party gained 13 of the 24 contested Senate seats and 64 of the 127 seats in the lower house.
  • This marks a significant expansion from their previous strength of 7 Senate seats and 37 lower-house seats.
  • President Milei credited the victory to public support for his economic reforms and spending cuts.
  • Previously, President Javier Milei was sworn into office on December 10, 2023. He succeeded Alberto Fernandez.

7. India’s industrial production grew by 4% in September 2025.

  • The manufacturing sector led the growth. Its output increased by 4.8%.
  • Electricity generation increased by 3.1%. Mining activity declined slightly.
  • It showed a 0.4% fall compared to last year.
  • The IIP growth for August 2025 was revised upward. It now stands at 4.1%, which is higher than earlier estimates.
  • Infrastructure goods showed the strongest performance. Their output surged by 10.5%.
  • Consumer durables production also increased sharply. It grew by 10.2%, showing strong demand recovery.
  • Intermediate goods output grew by 5.3%. This indicates moderate industrial momentum.
  • Capital goods output rose by 4.7%. This shows continued investment activity.
  • Primary goods showed only a small increase. They grew by 1.4%.
  • Consumer non-durable goods declined. Their output fell by 2.9%, pointing to weaker demand.

8. 69th National School Games 2025 inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu in Itanagar.

  • The event is for under-17 boys and girls in boxing.
  • It was inaugurated at the Khelo India Indoor Stadium, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
  • National School Games is being hosted by Arunachal Pradesh for the first time.
  • This marks a milestone in the 71-year history of the School Games Federation of India.
  • The Chief Minister noted the state’s progress in school-level sports.
  • Arunachal Pradesh has been affiliated with the School Games Federation of India since 2008–09.
  • Since then, the state has made strong strides in promoting sports among students.

9. Indian swimmer Dhinidhi Desinghu set a new national record in the women’s 400-metre freestyle at the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain.

  • She clocked 4 minutes 21.86 seconds in the final. This broke her previous national record of 4 minutes 24.60 seconds.
  • She finished fifth in the event. Aditi Satish Hegde also took part in the same race.
  • She secured seventh place. Her timing was 4 minutes 32.00 seconds.
  • In the boys’ events, Nitishsai Harinath competed in the 50-metre freestyle. He finished fifth with a time of 23.72 seconds.
  • Dhakshan Shashikumar took part in the 400-metre freestyle. He placed seventh with a timing of 4 minutes 00.87 seconds.
  • Vedant Tandale competed in the 100-metre butterfly. He ranked seventh with a finishing time of 56.31 seconds.
  • Asian Youth Games 2025 are being held in Bahrain from 22 to 31 October.
  • Asian Youth Games are held every four years among athletes from all over Asia.

10. Hurricane Melissa struck the northern coast of Jamaica.

  • It made landfall as a Category 5 storm. The hurricane ranked among the most powerful ever recorded in the Atlantic.
  • At its peak, Melissa packed winds of around 175 miles per hour.
  • It later weakened to a Category 3 storm while moving toward Cuba.
  • Severe destruction has been reported in southwestern Jamaica.
  • The storm has caused seven confirmed deaths. More than ten people were reported injured.
  • The storm continues to move westward across the northern Caribbean.
  • The Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale is a tropical cyclone intensity scale.
  • It classifies hurricanes into five categories based on the intensities of their sustained winds.
  • A tropical cyclone is called a ‘hurricane’ in the American continent.
  • In the Philippines and Japan, it is called a ‘typhoon.’ In Australia, tropical cyclones are called willy-willys.
